Commander 2020 Review Previous Getting Gaming: Talking Traps Next

So lets talk about this deck. I had an amazing time building this. I build decks based on inspiration. Just like writing, I need a muse and a reason to love the commander. It’s one of the reason I play a lot of personally themed decks. Sometimes I build them based on lore, for example I have a Kytheon deck because I thought his story was amazing and wanted to see it played out in a game.

With Saskia, I loved her warrior spirit but I was struggling to decide what about her I could build besides ‘just another warrior deck’. So I went to my friend JigglesMyPuffs, aka @idon’tsupportyou for advice. He said, “Saskia wants to point at someone, pick a fight and win.”

I was building the deck for our Commander #SerrasAngelsMTG stream so I knew that Saskia would need to pick a fight with three different commanders, but I didn’t want to build her just to counter my friends for multiple reasons. Douchery aside, I don’t like to build decks that aren’t good to be played against anyone. No one wants to go into battle unprepared, especially not Saskia!

So ultimately, I decided to pick four of the deck styles that I see the most and pick Saskia’s allies based on at least two counters per style. For example, Saskia can both shut down AND play in her graveyard. She can both build big creatures AND cut them down depending on what needs to happen in the game and what cards are drawn.

This appeals to me because I don’t really know who I want to attack when I start a game. I am a huge carebear so I don’t really like attacking, but that sort of needs to happen in order to win the game. 😀 Saskia allows me to choose who to pick a fight with based on what cards I start the game with. If I start with Kamball, Consul of Allocation, then I’m probably starting a fight with a spell-slinger deck first. If I start being targetted by another deck type, I do have Time of Need and a few other methods to search out my counter allies.

I had a lot of fun picking some of my favorite legendary allies as well. I’ll always have a soft spot for [card]Ruric Thar, the Unbowed[/card] (Affectionately called Ruru). JigglesMyPuffs introduced me to Zurgo Helmsmasher which I deemed as Ruru’s second cousin once removed. LOL

All in all, I had an amazing time and I can’t wait to play this out on April 11th at 6PM EST at
